The Marine Fisheries Academy Ex-Cadet Association (MFA ECA) is a government-registered, non-profit, voluntary, and welfare organization dedicated to serving its community members, advancing academic interests, and promoting national development. This association, founded on October 27, 1982, is steered by former cadets of the Marine Fisheries Academy with the primary objective of cultivating a robust and supportive network for all alumni. Marine Fisheries Academy ex-cadets occupy diverse professional roles globally, both onshore and offshore. A significant number of these cadets are engaged in the international maritime sector, substantially contributing to Bangladesh's economy with annual foreign remittances amounting to approximately US$57.60 million.
The inception of the association saw leadership from Navigator Md. Shamshul Islam Rashedi, Engineer Md. Shahjahan, and Fish Processing Technologist Waheduzzaman. On January 23, 1985, the Ex-Cadet Association achieved formal registration from the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of Bangladesh. Since then, the organization has broadened its scope to encompass professional development workshops, networking events, and community service projects.
Female cadets have increasingly joined the ranks alongside their male counterparts, significantly enhancing the maritime sector. The academy’s 32nd batch, admitted in 2011, included the first female cadets, who graduated in 2014. These pioneering women have excelled in their responsibilities within both national and international maritime arenas. This progression has facilitated women’s empowerment, contributing substantially to the Blue Economy and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
